SIA flights between Singapore and Tokyo affected as Typhoon Ampil approaches Japan

SINGAPORE: Several Singapore Airlines (SIA) flights to and from Tokyo on Thursday (Aug 15) have been affected by weather conditions caused by Typhoon Ampil.
According to an advisory issued by the airline, eight SIA flights to and from Narita and Haneda airports were retimed. Six of these flights were between Singapore and Tokyo, including SQ12, SQ632 and SQ633.
SIA will contact the affected customers to inform them of the change in flight timings, an airline spokesperson said in response to CNA’s query on Thursday.
Customers may request to be re-accommodated on alternative flights or seek a full refund for the unused portion of their ticket.
“The safety of our customers and crew is always our top priority. SIA will continue to monitor the situation closely and make any adjustments, as necessary,” the airline said, apologising to customers for the inconvenience caused.
In an advisory on Thursday, Narita International Airport said there may be delays or cancellations to flights and ground transportation due to the typhoon.
“Please contact your airline or ground transportation company for further information,” it added.
Scoot told CNA it had cancelled flights TR874 and TR875, which operate between Singapore and Tokyo via Taipei, that were scheduled for Friday.
“Scoot has contacted affected customers to reaccommodate them onto alternative flights, where available. Affected customers may also request a full refund if they choose not to continue with their travel,” said an airline spokesperson.
For bookings made through travel agents or partner airlines, customers are advised to contact their travel agent or purchasing airline directly for assistance.
“Scoot apologises to all affected customers for the inconvenience caused. The safety of our customers and crew remains our top priority,” the spokesperson said.
As Typhoon Ampil approached Japan on Thursday, hundreds of Japanese flights and trains were cancelled.
All Nippon Airways (ANA) cancelled some 280 domestic flights due on Friday, affecting more than 60,000 passengers, while Japan Airlines scrapped 191 domestic and 26 international services, hitting 38,600 customers.
Major parts of Japan’s network of bullet train services are also scheduled to be cancelled on Friday – including the busy section between Tokyo and the central city of Nagoya.
Japan’s weather agency also warned residents of eastern regions of possible violent gusts, flooding, overflowing rivers and landslides.
